[ad_1] Mukesh Ambani-owned telco Reliance Jio is set to launch its fiber-to-the-home service Jio Fiber across the country today. The company set the launch date a month ago at its Annual General Meet (AGM), where it also announced other details about the service. As the company turns three years old today, it will launch plans starting at ₹700 a month with speeds capped at 100Mbps, Ambani confirmed at the AGM. The top plan is priced at ₹10,000 per month with access to broadband, fixed line connection Jio HomeTV and Jio’s IoT. The company will unveil all the data plans of the Jio Fiber broadband service today. Here are the live updates:
— Jio turns three today
The country’s youngest and only profitable telecom operator took the revolutionary step of making voice calls completely free and brought data prices to rock-bottom—three years ago. Ambani credits the idea to his daughter Isha Ambani who had complained of slow internet speeds at her Mumbai house when she was on a holiday break during her college days at Yale. Here’s a lookback at the ideation of the telecom company.
— Reliance Industries shares march up
Reliance Industries shares rose ahead of the commercial launch of its Jio Fiber broadband services. Reliance Industries Ltd shares rose 0.6% while rival Bharti Airtel Ltd’s fell 0.6%. Its share price is up over 3% since 12 August.
— Landline services
Reliance will offer fixed line services with all of its Fiber packages. Voice calling to any Indian operator would be free. Jio also promised to reduce the prices of international calls.
“ISD calling tariffs would be 1/5th to 1/10th of industry rates. We are offering unlimited US/Canada pack at ₹500 per month,” Ambani said at the AGM.
— Complimentary set-top box for all: Sources
“All Jio Fiber customers will get complimentary set top box,” the PTI source said. Jio Fiber customers will have access to movies and other video content of leading entertainment mobile apps, whose subscription fee will be bundled in the monthly broadband connection rates and no separate charges will be levied, the source added.
— Jio Set-top box features
Apart from delivering content from leading streaming services, the set-top box will also allow access to video calling service on TV sets. The customer will need to attach a camera with the STB for the service. The set-top box will also provide access to a large number of cable TV channels, as the company as worked extensively to poach in local cable operators (LCOs).
